Chris Hogan Visits, Gives Patriots Jersey To UNC-Charlotte Shooting Survivor

UNC-Charlotte student Drew Pescaro was shot in the deadly shooting at the school last week. Several NFL players visited the student in hospital, including Carolina Panthers wide receiver D.J. Moore and retired Patriots running back Jonathan Stewart.  Chris Hogan was the latest player to visit Pescaro.

Hogan’s visit was special, because Pescaro is a native of Rutland, Massachusetts. Hogan was part of the New England Patriots for 2 years before signing with the Panthers in free agency. The former Patriots receiver gifted the student a Patriots jersey.

“The entire Carolina Panthers team and staff have been AMAZING in supporting Drew through his recovery process. Thank you, Chris- we loved you as a Patriot and can’t wait to see you as a Panther.”

Hogan responded to the Pescaros on his Twitter. He wrote, “Get better buddy! Was great hanging with you and the fam!”

Jonathan Stewart visited Pescaro two days after the shooting. Pescaro is also a sports writer for UNC-Charlotte’s newspaper.

I just wanted to remind him that now is a time to lean on his support system, and focus on healing,” Stewart told the Charlotte Observer. “With something like that happening in our community, it was an opportunity to show love to him and to be there. Because at the end of the day, to love is to be there for someone.”

The shooter injured three others and killed two. Witness Joshua Ayers says the shooter targeted a particular table in Room 236 of the Kennedy Building.

“Mr. Ayers stated that the subject walked towards a particular table and began to fire at the people seated there,” read the statement. “At that point everyone began to flee the classroom. It was apparent to Mr. Ayers that the subject targeted a specific table of people.”

The Major of Charlotte, Vi Lyles expressed full support and sent message of condolence to the families.

“We are in shock to learn of an active shooter situation on the campus of UNC Charlotte. My thoughts are with families of those who lost their lives, those injured, the entire UNCC community and the courageous first responders who sprang into action to help others,” Lyles tweeted.

Waka Flocka Flame was supposed to perform at the UNCC football stadium to celebrate the last day of classes.

“I pray all my fans are safe and ok! It sure what’s going on, I just landed in Charlotte to terry news! I will not be able to perform or even make it to the venue..please to all my supporters and followers be safe,” the star wrote on his Instagram story.
