LeBron James: Los Angeles Lakers New Head Coach Confirmed

The Los Angeles Lakers have a new head coach as confirmed by the franchise.

Frank Vogel will replace Luke Walton, and the team offered him a multi-year contract that’s effective immediately. Vogel has been linked with the role for quite some time, and some were convinced that he would get the job.

The Lakers interviewed Tyronn Lue for the position, and it was more than obvious that he would get the job. However, the negotiations got stuck in the middle of nowhere and Lue actually demanded a longer contract than the two-year deal Los Angeles offered.

The franchise stepped forward and announced their decision to hire Vogel. The new head coach will have a lot of responsibilities with the team, and he will also have to rebuild the roster.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka welcomed Vogel and hinted that the team needed this move to turn into playoff contenders.

“We are excited to add Frank Vogel as the next head coach of the Lakers,” said Pelinka. “Coach Vogel has a proven track record of success in the NBA Playoffs, and he reflects the core qualities we were looking for in a head coach, including, detailed game preparation, extreme hard work, and holding players accountable to the highest basketball standards.”

The Lakers missed out the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year and finished tenth in the Western Conference. LeBron James’ groin injury was one of the reasons that brought to the premature end of the regular season for the Lakers.

Vogel is confident that he will help the team improve.

“I am very excited for this opportunity to join the Lakers, a prestigious organization that I have long admired,” he said. “I look forward to coaching such phenomenal talent and bringing my strategic vision to the team.”

Vogel was assistant head coach at the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers. He was head coach of the Orlando Magic before the team fired him at the end of the 2017-18 NBA season which saw the team finish with a 25-57 record.

Is LeBron fine with Vogel’s hiring? Let’s wait and find out.
