Report: LeBron James Already Recruiting Kawhi Leonard And Jimmy Butler

LeBron James promised to help the team sign a big star, and it seems like he has already had contract with Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler in an effort to recruit them to the Lakers.

The Lakers are in a desperate position at the moment, and they are hunting for an All-Star.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that King James has begun his recruitment campaign. According to him, both Leonard and Butler have been contacted by the Lakers star.

“From what I understand, [LeBron] has already begun the recruiting process,” he said on ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption. “I’ve heard he has had contact with Kawhi Leonard.

“I’ve heard he’s had contact with Jimmy Butler. There’s no tampering enforcement by players. And while Magic Johnson – the guy who got in trouble for tampering before – LeBron is tamper-in-chief of the Lakers right now. I don’t know if texts, calls and dinner with LeBron is enough for the Lakers to overcome the hurdles they are going to have. I don’t think the Lakers can be choosy. If I’m honest, I think the Lakers really have to look at the trade market.”

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith says that there’s still hope for the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Kawhi Leonard to the Lakers,” he said. “I’m being told don’t rule that out. In fact I have it on pretty good authority that’s something Earvin Magic Johnson himself was working on because he knows the uncle of Kawhi Leonard. So we can’t rule that out with the Lakers.

“Of course the Clippers think they got a shot at Kawhi and now Brooklyn think they now got a shot at Kyrie and Kevin Durant because they’re anticipating having enough cap space for two max players as well, which was the impetus and motivation behind the New York Knicks ultimately trading KP to clear $41million in cap space so they would have over $73m available and they’d be able to get two max players.”

This is great news for pretty much everyone who hopes to see the Lakers in a better position next year. Let’s see what happens next year.
