Patriots Make Decision On Tampering Charge Against Houston Texans

First of all, you don’t mess with the New England Patriots. Houston Texans learned that the hard way. After their aggressive pursuit of Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio to take over as their general manager, New England filed tempering charges against the Texans.

Ultimately, the Texans have decided to end their pursuit and as a result, the Patriots are dropping the charges.

Just one day after a member of the Texans front office was seen at the Patriots’ ring ceremony, Houston Texans fired general manager Brian Gaine.

The Houston Texans released a statement regarding their decision. According to the statement, they believed they were fully compliant with the NFL’s rules, but were “made aware of certain terms” in his contract and stopped the pursut.

While the issue of a potential NFL investigation hanging over their heads is resolved, the Texans still have to deal with finding a new general manager.

Earlier this month the New York Jets landed Joe Douglas from the Philadelphia Eagles, taking one of the top general manager candidates off the market.

However, Schefter noted that the Texans might be willing to go into the season without filling that position.

Over the past few days, Martin Mayhew of the San Francisco 49ers, and former Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer have been interviewed for the job.
