LeBron James Brings His Story of Leadership to Berlin’s Youth

Nobody thought that the kid from Akron would develop into the greatest basketball player of all times. LeBron James was raised by a single mom, and that actually helped him grab life with both hands. Today, LeBron is a brilliant basketball player and successful businessman. Last September, the Lakers star went to Berlin with Highsnobiety as part of the “More Than an Athlete” world tour.

In Berlin, LeBron met young players, and was accompanied by Bayern Munich footballer Jerome Boatend and bozer Zeina Nassar. Nassar is the first woman to compete in a headscarf and won the German featherweight championship in 2018.

Berlin may be a big city, but young people deal with a lot of inner-city pressure. After the reunification of East and West Berlin in 1989, the city became a center of art, culture and grit. However, people had to deal with poverty and hardship, too.

Sport was really important for young people who were trying to define themselves. Unfortunately, participation in sport declines as children get older. The number of children participating in sports clubs drops 20 percent between 14 and 19, and by 19, only one in four boys is an active sportist. When it comes to girls, one in ten girls is active in sports.

So, LeBron came to the big city to empower the youth.

LeBron is more than a basketball player. He opened his I Promise school in Akron in July, 2018, and that was his way of giving back to the community. He helped at-risk children who had nobody else to help them.

According to LeBron, sports is something that brings people together, uniting individuals of every age, religion, and nationality.

The Lakers star hosted Berlin’s greatest pick-up game, and everyone got the chance to play on the court. Every point scored became a cash donation to a local sporting organization.

Hopefully, LeBron’s message will encourage kids to be more active and follow their dreams. Impossible is nothing, and we are in charge of our own goals and career. LeBron is the GOAT today, and he worked really hard to get this far.
