Ayesha Curry details Her First Date With Steph When They Were Teenagers

Steph and Ayesha Curry first met when they were 14. Ayesha appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and shared details of their first date. She arrived in the US at 14, and the Warriors star was actually the one of the first people she met there. Their first official date happened a few years later.

“I picked him up in my ’98 Astro van,” Ayesha explained, and didn’t forget to mention that her husband was wearing 3XL size shorts, which she joked was “a sign of the times.”

The couple went to Madame Tussauds, and had chai tea lattes: “Listen, we were 18 and 19 so if that, like, clarifies anything. It was awesome. 11 years later we’re here.”

Kimmel asked Ayesha about Curry’s mood at the moment. His Warriors were defeated by the Toronto Raptors, and it doesn’t feel right.

“The mood right now looks like sloping greens and 9 irons and drivers. … At this point, a lot of times, things are bigger than basketball, so at this point, he just wants his teammates to get healthy.”

In a 2017 interview with PEOPLE magazine, Steph and Ayesha shared more details about their relationship and their first “I love you.”

“I told him I loved him first and he said, ‘I feel like I love you too, but I don’t want to say it unless I’m sure because I just want to be sure that when I say it, I really mean it,’” Ayesha recalls. “I had to get in my car and drive home. I was crying.”

Curry said it back a few months later, and they were with both theyr families. It was Christmas. “We were watching a movie and he turned to my ear and he said, ‘I love you.’,” Ayesha said. “Mind you, my parents were sitting right there. His parents were sitting right there. Our siblings are sitting right there. I was trying to sit and watch the movie, but I was freaking out. It was so special because I knew he meant it.”
