Report: Jared Veldheer Reveals Reason For Retiring Soon After Joining Patriots

Jared Veldheer put an end to his tenure with the New England Patriots before it even started. Veldheer’s career with the team was short-lived, and now we know his reasons to retire after joining Bill Belichick’s team.

The Patriots announced the signing of Veldheer on May 13, but he told the team that he plans to retire right after that. Veldheer explained his reasons to retire during an interview with Peter J. Wallner of Mlive.com.

“It was easy (decision) because of knowing what my body was telling me, but it was hard because I was leaving a very good situation being with the Patriots,” Veldheer told Wallner. “(Belichick) understood, and everyone in the NFL building understands that the sport can do a number on your body and different guys have different timelines on how long they can make it through.”

What was Veldheer’s real problem exactly? He told Wallner that his hips, “Particularly my left one, was in pretty bad shape (after the season).”

The Patriots were really thin at the offensive tackle spots with the veteran, and their depth is still an issue with his retirement. The team lost tackles Trent Brown and LaAdrian Waddle in free agency. 2018 first-round pick Isaiah Wynn missed his rookie season due to an Achilles injury.

Wynn is making an awesome progress in his recovery, and he will probably join the team in August, as confirmed by Jeff Howe of The Athletic. Wynn will play Week 1 of the regular season and will add a lot of strength to the Patriots offensive line coming off a very nice performance in the team’s run to a championship title.

“Left tackle Isaiah Wynn is expected to be ready for training camp,” Howe wrote. “He has been running at full speed, which is always an important benchmark for a player following an Achilles tear.”

The Patriots will do their best to go for another win this season. They did an incredible job in 2018, and they will come even stronger in 2019. N’Keal Harry and a few other rookies will be of great help in the process. Game on!
