Julian Edelman’s Mother Reveals Why Patriots Star Didn’t Talk To His Father For 81 Days

Patriots receiver Julian Edelman had the premiere of his documentary, 100% Julian Edelman. The documentary revealed details of Edelman’s life on and off the court. He even talked about his dad and the reason they didn’t talk for 81 days.

“Me and my dad talk every day,” Edelman said, “And after that, we didn’t talk for awhile.”

His mom knows what really happened.

“Frank was very upset,” Edelman’s mother said. “Jules didn’t want his dad a part of this process. He was handling it with his attorneys, and my husband doesn’t understand that sometimes.”

In a teaser, Edelman said that his father was his idol and greatest support.

“He’s kind of like my little mechanic with my mind sometimes,” Edelman said. “He’s like the life coach doctor sometimes. Even though he pisses me off, but then I realize it’s good to have him around.”

“He showed me work ethic by how much we practiced, but he also led by example — by being a small-business owner, waking up at 5 a.m., getting to the shop, doing what he’s gotta do, and then coming home, working with me, and coaching after-school sports. It’s one of those things where he not only taught me through constant repetition through practice — and as a kid you learn, the more you practice the better you are — but he also showed by example.”

Edelman missed four games due to the suspension. 2018 was a tough year for him.

“After going through this whole year,” Edelman told Peter King, “these last 24 months of my life have been a roller coaster. You go out and you tear an ACL. Then all of a sudden you have a suspension that you’re facing. A lot of things go down and then you end up … a huge low of your life. Because football is life. That’s what people don’t understand with me. This is what I am. This is what I was put here to do. This is what I sacrificed all my time for—my friends, my family, everything like that … And then when you’re told you can’t play football for four weeks because of something that happened that you really can’t get into because you really don’t know what happened, it’s tough. You learn a lot from that.

“When that happened, I had a strong corner behind me. My father and I kind of just sat back and said, All right, we have a problem here. What’s this problem? Let’s make sure this never happens again. Let’s own up to it. Let’s take your penalty like a man, regardless of the circumstances.’ … From this whole thing, I’ve learned that you’ve just got to stay in your routine, and you’ve just got to work your way out of it. People don’t know what happened. I can’t sit here and [due to] the league rules say what happened.”
