Anthony Davis Is Being Traded To Los Angeles Lakers

According to a recent report, the Los Angeles Lakers will acquire Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. In exchange, the Lakers will surrender Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first-round picks.

Davis’ intentions to join the Lakers became topic of speculations when he hired Klutch Sports – an agency known for its partnership with LeBron James. They are also famous for their hardline negotiating tactics in getting their players what they want, and Davis hiring them made it clear that he had no intention of remaining in New Orleans. He officially requested a trade in January, but a combination of bad blood between Dell Demps and Magic Johnson, leaks of offers and the looming specter of the Boston Celtics, who could not legally acquire Davis at that point ultimately led to Davis finishing the season as a Pelican.

When Demps got fired and Johnson stepped down, any preexisting tension was minimized. The Lakers jumped up to No. 4 overall in the NBA Draft through the lottery, becoming the best possible fit for a deal.

With Davis on board, the Lakers finally have a co-star for LeBron James, and they couldn’t ask for a better one. He is among the best defenders in all of basketball and a perfect pick-and-roll partner for James. Together, they have a very real chance to win the championship.

The Pelicans, meanwhile, get to reload and acquire young talent that could grow alongside presumptive No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson. The team should compete for a playoff spot next season and even be in title contention in the near future.

The biggest domino of the NBA offseason has officially fallen. Anthony Davis is perhaps the most valuable player to be traded since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul-Jabbar also joined the Lakers back in 1975 and won five championships with them. Now Davis has to try to live up to that legacy.
