Heisler: LeBron James Hand-Delivers Stars As Lakers Keep Flopping About

Anthony Davis had two years on his contract with the New Orleans Pelicans when he made a deal with LeBron’s agent and demanded a trade from the team. He wanted to go to Los Angeles despite the fact that the Lakers were a sinking wreck. Magic Johnson resigned from his position in the team and the front office was struggling a lot. This didn’t stop the team in their effort to get Davis, and that’s exactly what happened. Davis was traded to the Lakers. Was LeBron James involved in the process?

Of course. Some say this was a massive tampering case, but the league couldn’t prove it. The Lakers had already been fined for tampering. General Manager Rob Pelinka emailed Paul George’s agent, and got into a big trouble. His “email” was worth $500,000.

Sources believe that LeBron wooed Davis away from the Pelicans and undercut the team’s trade leverage.

Davis gave the Pelicans a list of four teams, but his trade request wasn’t successful. He cut the list to the Lakers and Knicks.

The Knicks were interested in signing both Davis and Irving, but didn’t have much to offer.

The Boston Celtics were mentioned, too. The team offered three No.1 picks, a future Memphis pick in 2020 or 2021, Jayson Tatum and other young talents.

Paul warned the Celtics off, and told Spots Illustrated that “they can trade for him but it will be for one year.”It was brutal, and Paul was in the front line of offense. LeBron was behind the curtains.

If you ask NBA analysts, this was a pure LeBron production. The Lakers front office was just waiting for an outcome.

LeBron has always tried to bring stars to the team he is playing at the moment. He did it in Cleveland and Miami. He did the same thing in Los angeles.

Remember when LeBron said that he would love to play alongside Davis? He didn’t even hide his interest.

The Lakers and Pelicans played a few days later, and LeBron and Davis went out for a dinner.
