NBA Media Reacts To DeMarcus Cousins’ Breakout Game 2

DeMarcus Cousins returned from his quad injury in the best shape possible. Cousins had a huge role on the floor, and helped the Golden State Warriors defeat the Toronto Raptors in Game 2 of the series.

Cousins played eight minutes in the series opener, and got 28 minutes in Game 2. He was planned to get 20, but Cousins changed his mind. Cousins scored 11 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two blocks.

Media members went crazy last night, and pretty much everyone praised Cousins’ effort to help the team pick up a road win.

Skip Bayless didn’t miss the chance to comment Cousins’ game

“I’ve always loved DeMarcus Cousins – before that draft, I said I’d take him over John Wall. Tonight, he made me nervous every time he touched the ball. But did he ever play big,” he tweeted.

Head coach Steve Kerr had words of praise for his player.

“He was great,” the head coach said. “We came in thinking, ‘All right, he can maybe play 20 minutes,’ and he gave us almost 28. There was only one time in the game when he needed a rest, which was mid-fourth, and we gave him a couple minutes and then got him back in the game. But he was fantastic and we needed everything he gave out there—his rebounding, his toughness, his physical presence, getting the ball in the paint, and just playing big, like he does. We needed all of that.”

If you ask Stephen Curry, he will say that Cousins healed perfectly, explaining the struggle basketball players go through when recovering from a terrible injury.

“People don’t understand how tough it is mentally and how lonely it can be,” Curry told Michael Lee of The Athletic when discussing Cousins’ rehab. “It’s not just that he made it back, it’s that he’s appreciative of the moment.

“He could’ve healed from injury but been a different person – grumpy, bitter, not accepting the role that he has now because it’s different than what he expected. That’s the most impressive part. Not that he healed. The recovery is what it is. But the fact that he’s been such a great teammate, accepted the role of how he can help us win.

“Yeah, that lets you know what kind of guy he is. That’s a hard truth that most people wouldn’t be able to take in terms of where he was – where he’s going to be able to get back to – and where he is now in this between time.”
