NBA Star Trio To Join LeBron In Space Jam Sequel

NBA fans can’t wait to watch Space Jam 2, and we already have the names of some members of the cast. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that LeBron James will be joined by Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson.

Davis has already joined LeBron on the Lakers roster, so it’s more than expected to see him take a role in the Warner Bros sequel.

Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwymike may get parts, and “several more NBA players and WNBA players, including Chiney Ogwumike, are expected to play roles in film.”

“The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie,” LeBron told The Hollywood Reporter in September of last year. “It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”

Thompson has already been linked with Space Jam 2.

“Everybody thinks (Klay Thompson) is probably staying with the Warriors and I would agree with that,” Fox Sports’ Jason McIntyre said. “But I heard some news this week that could change things. That Klay Thompson is now ‘locked in’ to do ‘Space Jam 2.’”

LeBron had hard time getting NBA stars on the cast, because most players have contracts with different companies that don’t include Nike. It’s a big project, and LeBron will have a full-length basketball court built on set.

Joe Vardon of The Athletic reported that, “Production begins this summer on ‘Space Jam 2,’ which stars LeBron and is set for a July 2021 release. This is not James’ first summer movie project; he filmed ‘Trainwreck’ in 2014 and the animated film ‘Smallfoot’ in 2017. Sources told The Athletic that a full-length basketball court would be built on the ‘Space Jam 2’ set for LeBron to train.”

“As to why shoes matter, Nike is essential to the Space Jam franchise. The 1996 first film was based on the ‘Hare Jordan’ commercial directed by Joe Pytka, who also helmed the feature. That makes the involvement of Curry (Under Armour contract through 2024) and Harden (Adidas) nearly impossible, sources say.”
