Report: Doctor Slams Kevin Durant, Warriors Surgery Narrative

Kevin Durant injured his Achilles in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, and he had to fix it with a surgery. Many condemned the Warriors’ decision to put him on the floor, and a local doctor made a statement about it.

“I knew he was coming to New York,” explained New Jersey foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon Andrew Brief. He has known Dr. Martin O’Malley for ten years. O’Malley performed Durant’s successful surgery Wednesday.

“I mean, O’Malley operated on him before [2015 foot surgery],” Brief said. “He’s a repeat customer. That was the way it was going to go the moment it happened.”

Durant may miss an entire season, and Brief said that athletes usually return after seven or nine months. Wesley Matthews, an outlier, had the same injury in March 2015, and returned after seven months. Kobe Bryant recovered within eight months. Unfortunately, some players never return.

According to Brief, surgery techniques have advanced a lot. smaller incisions actually provide a quicker recovery time. Brief also noted that age won’t be a factor in Durant’s case as he will turn 31 in September.

Trusting O’Malley put a black dot on the Warriors’ medical staff. These doctors oversaw Durant’s rehabilitation from a right calf strain to his return in Game 5.

O’Malley has already worked with the Knicks, and the team is considered a favorite when it comes to Durant’s next landing spot. He is expected to become a free agent, and having O’Malley do his surgery added fuel to the fire.

Did Durant return a bit too early? Warriors General Manager Bob Myers said it was a collaborative decision, and the calf strain actually made Durant’s Achilles “vulnerable” to injury.

Brief explained that Durant was great during warmups, and even scored 11 points in his 12 minutes on the floor.

“This was a matter of bad luck more than bad judgment,” Brief said.

So, things don’t look really good for the Golden State, and Durant’s absence may affect their chance to win to championship. Raptors fans were happy about the whole injury thing as their team now has less obstacles on their way.
