Report: Golden State Warriors Big Man Sidelined Indefinitely After Injury

The Golden State Warriors are all focused on Klay Thompson’s MRI results, and Kevon Looney is now giving them a terrible headache. It seems like Looney’s injury was pretty serious, and the diagnosis isn’t good at all.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the first-round draft pick suffered a fractured collar bone. Looney will be out of the field indefinitely. This injury put an end to his run with the Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals.

“Further detail on Looney injury, per sources: non-displaced first costal cartilage fracture. There could be more evaluation, but there isn’t great optimism on a return this season. DeMarcus Cousins’ emergence in Game 2 looms even bigger for the Warriors.”

Looney suffered his injury in the first half of the Warriors’ 109-104 win over the Toronto Raptors in Game 2 of the series. He had a nasty landing which actually brought his postseason to an end.

Wojnarowski explained that Looney’s injury is a non-displaced first costal cartilage fracture. He also explained that there may be more evaluation of Looney’s condition, but there isn’t a great share of optimism regarding his return to the floor this season.

The Warriors will probably keep playing without Looney. He had 28 minutes in Game 1, and the team will have to rely heavily on DeMarcus Cousins.

Cousins was really good in game 2. Head coach Steve Kerr didn’t believe that Cousins will return from his injury in such a good condition, and was willing to give him 20 minutes on the floor. However, Cousins played 28.

“He was great,” the head coach said. “We came in thinking, ‘All right, he can maybe play 20 minutes,’ and he gave us almost 28. There was only one time in the game when he needed a rest, which was mid-fourth, and we gave him a couple minutes and then got him back in the game. But he was fantastic and we needed everything he gave out there—his rebounding, his toughness, his physical presence, getting the ball in the paint, and just playing big, like he does. We needed all of that.”

The Warriors will need all the luck in this world for the upcoming game.
