Report: Kawhi Leonard To Meet With Lakers In Los Angeles

Kawhi Leonard will talk to the Los Angeles Lakers next week. He will also meet with the Los Angeles Clippers. The information was first confirmed by Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Leonard will meet the teams in Los Angeles. These are the only meetings he has scheduled at the moment, and of course, he will also talk to the Toronto Raptors.

“Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard intends to grant the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers meetings when free agency opens on June 30, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The meetings would be held in Los Angeles, sources said.

“Leonard, who declined his $21.3 million player option to become an unrestricted free agent, plans to meet with a handful of teams — including the Raptors — before making a decision about his future, sources said. Leonard, 27, is perhaps the top free agent on the market, and the Raptors are the only team that can offer him a max contract for five years and $190 million.

“Leonard produced career highs in points (26.6) and rebounds (7.3) in his lone season with the Raptors. In eight seasons, the three-time All-Star has averaged 17.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals. Leonard is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and was the NBA Finals MVP in 2014 for San Antonio.”

The Raptors will meet with Leonard last and he will first talk to other teams as confirmed by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

We don’t have much information regarding the meetings. Frank Isola of The Athletic reported that the Clippers will meet with Leonard on July 2nd. The free agency begins on June 30th.

Many teams will meet with star players to fix their rosters. Most of the stars are expected to become free agents this summer. Kevin Durant has already declined his option with the Golden State Warriors.

We will witness a lot of changes this free agency. The Lakers are all-in when it comes to adding a star player as they really need to strengthen their roster. LeBron James and Anthony Davis definitely need another strong player, preferably a shooter. Who is coming to LA?
