Tom Brady, Bill Belichick Videos Emerge Of Patriots 2000 Rookie Camp

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will enter his 20th season in the NFL. He was selected as the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. Many teams missed the opportunity to get the best player on their roster. The Patriots had a lot of luck. Now we have the videos of the 2000 rookie camp.

Brady played just one season with the Patriots, and the next yeas he was excellent. He threw for 2,843 yards and 18 touchdowns. Brady, Coach Belichick and the rest of the team won the first Super Bowl the following season.

How could NFL teams overlook Brady?

Former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum appeared on ESPN’s NFL Live and talked about the NFL Draft. He didn’t miss the opportunity to discuss the fact that the GOAT was overlooked 19 years ago.

“Actually I was in the draft room, I’ll never forget it,” Tannenbaum said. “We had four first-round picks in 2000 and we took Chad Pennington with the third of the four picks. And in the third round that year, this is remarkable — Bill Walsh drafts Giovanni Carmazzi of Hostra University, which was right across from the Jets facility and we’re like, ‘Oh my God, we blew it.’ Bill Walsh, this quarterback whisperer, takes Carmazzi, who’s across the street, in the third round. And we’re like, ‘Oh man. We just blew it.’ And then in the sixth round, some guy named Tom Brady went with the 199th pick.”

Brady had a conference call with media members after being selected, and one of them asked him if he was disappointed.

“I don’t think disappointed is the word,” TB12 said. “I thing the team that has drafted me I’m just very comfortable with and whether it would be in the second round or the sixth round I think everyone starts on the same level. It’s a great opportunity to head back to New England, and play for the Patriots. It’s certainly been a dream come true.”

Joining Drew Bledsoe was a good opportunity for Brady as he had a lot to learn.

“You know, Drew Bledsoe is certainly one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. It’s going to be great to learn under him and compete for a job with the Patriots. Certainly this is a great step for me. It’s going to be a great challenge but I think I’m ready for it. Actually, I know I’m ready for it.”
