Adrian Wojnarowski Gives Update On Klay Thompson’s ACL Surgery

The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson reached an agreement regarding his contract. Thompson re-signed with the Warriors and agreed to a five-year deal worth $190 million. Well, he will probably miss the first season because of the injury he suffered in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. Thompson had a successful surgery to repair his torn ACL, and he is now receiving recovery treatment. Hopefully, his condition will improve and he will heal sooner than expected. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski provided an update on Thompson’s surgery.

“Warrior All-Star guard Klay Thompson underwent successful surgery today to repair his torn ACL, league source tells ESPN. Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed procedure at the Kerlan Jobe Institute in Los Angeles.

“Thompson is expected to make a full recovery. There’s no timetable on a return, but his agent Greg Lawrence has said that Thompson is expected to follow a standard recovery time of 5-to-7 months. Thompson recently agreed to a new 5-year, $190M contract with Golden State.”

Thompson is expected to follow the standard recovery of 5-7 months. He is also expected to recover completely, but there’s still no timetable regarding his return to the floor. He was a key player in the Warriors’ dynasty from the moment he was drafted as the 115h overall pick in 2011.

The team had its first championship run in 2014-15, and Thompson averaged 21.6 points per game on 47.1% shooting.

Thompson has also been one of the Warriors’ better defenders. He totaled 12.7 defensive win shares in this span. He was also named to the NBA All-Defensive second team last season.

We also expect that D’Angelo Russell will take over Klay’s minutes.

Warriors players are happy to welcome Thompson back.

“It’s just tough in terms of a guy like Klay that left it all out there,” Stephen Curry said after the Game 6 loss to Toronto. “He was playing amazing tonight. And to see a freak play like that where he lands awkwardly. I don’t know the diagnosis yet, but you think about the person and the guy and how much he loves to play the game and that’s the only thoughts you have. It’s really not about what it means in terms of playing basketball. It’s just I’m more concerned about him as an individual.”
