LeBron James Sends Cavs Fans Inspiring Message on Anniversary of Banner Being Taken Down

LeBron James’ banner in Cleveland was taken down a year ago. The banner was removed after King James decided to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The banner is gone, but the success LeBron had when wearing the Cavaliers jersey will always be there. SportsCenter posted a photo of LeBron’s banner, and the king had the perfect comment.

“Billboards and banners (unless it’s a championship banner) come and go but how you made them feel while it was up will live on forever,” LeBron commented.

In other words, LeBron believes the experience he had in Cleveland is exceptional and incredible.

The Cavaliers drafted LeBron in 2003. He left the team in 2010 to sign with the Miami Heat and came back in 2014. The king helped the team win their championship, and Cavs fans will never forget that.

So, what was Cleveland’s excuse to take down the banner?

“Our goal was to create a meaningful offering of public art to celebrate The Land and all those who support and love this city and region,” explained Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena CEO Len Komoroski. “Our hope is that it stirs the emotion and sense of pride, community and celebration of our city in a personal way for those invested in The Land.

“In addition to the banner being the perfect selfie backdrop for Cavs fans, Clevelanders and visitors who come downtown to enjoy all that The Land has to offer, the design provides the opportunity to engage everyone no matter where they live and no matter what their connection to our city and community is— our pride spreads far and wide.”

Let’s not forget that LeBron’s locker became a towel closet.

The Athletic’s Joe Vardon triggered an avalanche of reactions.

“Any suggestions that the Cavs intentionally turned LeBron’s locker into a towel closet is untrue. No one’s locker remained from the old format @BleacherReport. In the old design, LeBron’s locker was in that corner, but there weren’t a row of lockers down the side.”

“Technically, the LeBron spot is now a towel closet,” he tweeted. “Hey, everyone, from @BleacherReport on down, let’s take it easy on the LeBron locker stuff. As I said, it’s an entirely new locker room with a totally new design.”

LeBron knew that he joining the Lakers is the right thing to be done.

“I wouldn’t have come here if I didn’t believe this franchise was all about winning,” he said at the time. “That’s what this franchise is all about. Some things that are known don’t need to be said. I believe Jeanie [Buss], Linda [Rambis], Magic [Johnson] and Rob [Pelinka], and everybody who has anything to do with this organisation, this is what it’s about.

“It’s absolutely fair that our fans feel the way they feel. We’re either competing for a championship, or we’re winning a championship, and I love that. That’s why I’m here. I want to add to these trophies here, and I want to add to the banners that are up in Staples Center.”
