Report: Kawhi Leonard Makes Free Agency Decision

Kawhi Leonard made a decision regarding his free agency. Finally.

However, Raptors fans will be far from pleased with this one, because Leonard decided to sign a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. The information was confirmed by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Clippers will also sign Paul George from the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team will have to give up on five first-round picks, including four unprotected owns and two pick swaps. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Danilo Gallinari are traded away, too.

Danny Green is leaving the Raptors, too.

“It’s been unfortunate how things turned out for everybody, and the city of Toronto and Canada that we couldn’t run it back. Kawhi has made his decision. Seems like the announcement is out,” Green said in a video he posted to his social media accounts. “It’s time for me to make my announcement … I will be teaming up with new teammates in LA, the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Had a fun time in the city of Toronto . . . always have a great place in my heart, will never forget the historical run that we had.”

Leonard is leaving the Raptors after an incredible season.

He averaged 28.5 points in a six-game finals victory over Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors. Leonard scored 732 points in the playoffs, and he is close to Michael Jordan (759) and LeBron James (748).

The star averaged 26.6 points on 49.6 per cent shooting, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals over 60 regular-season games with the Raptors this season.

“He’s earned the right to think about this and we’ll respect it,” Raptors general manager Bobby Webster told reporters in late June. “Obviously, we’d love to have him back but this is his decision and it’s a big one for him.”

Leonard has every right to make such a big decision. He is shaping his professional career, and it was sort of obvious that he would go with the Clippers. He wanted to go home, and the Raptors were just a stop on his way home. This stop brought him a title.
