Report: Golden State Warriors Agree To A Trade With The Hawks

The Golden State Warriors reached an agreement with the Atlanta Hawks, and decided to trade Damian Jones and a second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks. Stephen Curry’s team will get Omari Spellman. The information was confirmed by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

This is the latest move the Golden State Warriors have made, and it includes another undervalued but “highly drafted talent.” D’Angelo Russell is the first example. Well, he isn’t really undervalued, because Jeanie Buss had to pay two first-round picks and Andre Iguodala to take him. The Warriors are convinced that they can get the best of him. The same applies for Willie Cauley-Stein. He is a former lottery pick, and today, he is part of this group.

The player isn’t as “decorated” as Cauley-Stein or Russell. However, the former Villanova forward was a first-round pick a year ago. He joined the Atlanta Hawks at No. 30 and turned into a good defender who managed to make 34.4 percent of his three-pointers. He was no longer a good option for Atlanta after all of the assets they have spent on wings. The Warriors will probably try to mold Spellman into a backup for Draymond Green who may defend a few positions and make open shots for the foreseeable future. He has three years left on his rookie deal, and he may be of great help for the franchise.

Atlanta traded in one young player for another fresh talent. Spellman wasn’t going to get a lot of minutes with the Hawks as they signed DeAndre Hunter, Cam Reddish, Evan Turner and Jabari Parker. The franchise opted for a center to replace DeWayne Dedmon, who joined the Sacramento Kings in the offseason. Jones will have his next deal faster than Spellman, but is a better fit with the new organization. He should enjoy the game with Trae Young.

This deal tells us a lot for the Golden State. Spellman will get less than $1.9 million this season, and Jones will get $2.3 million. The Warriors saved $400,000 with this trade. For most NBA teams, this doesn’t mean a thing, but the Warriors needed this.
