Report: Andre Iguodala A Possible Return To The Warriors

Andre Iguodala may end up re-signing with the Golden State Warriors. That’s what Marcus Thompson of The Athletics said.

Thompson believes that Iguodala may return at some point for the 2019-20 season or to start the 2020-21 season.

Iggy was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies because the Warriors needed enough cap space for D’Angelo Russell. The team will play without Iguodala, DeMarcus Cousins and Kevin Durant. Cousins is a Laker now, and Durant signed a big deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Warriors will have to rely on Draymond Green, Kevon Looney and Andrew Bogut in terms of defensive presence.

The Mavericks are discussing an Iguodala trade with the Grizzlies, and Mike Fisher of DallasBasketball.com confirmed this.

The Dallas Mavericks’ long-standing desire to shed themselves of Courtney Lee has manifested itself in a trade offer from the Mavs to Memphis that would send Lee and a second-round pick to the Grizzlies in exchange for veteran standout Andre Iguodala, sources tell DallasBasketball.com.

The Grizzlies’ so-far response, DBcom has been told, is that they are unwilling to take on the ballast of Lee’s $12.759 million salary in such a deal.

Can Dallas keep this deal alive? The Mavs can pay $5 million in cash as a sweetener, thus saving Memphis $9.4 mil from where it currently stands ($5 mil from Dallas and $4.4 mil being the difference between Lee and Iggy). So while Dallas can feel it “wins” the trade, Memphis can do the same, as the Grizzlies’ net would be the Warriors’ first-round pick they got with the Iggy trade along with a Dallas second-rounder, all for the cost of paying Lee about $7.7 million.

Warriors fans like Iguodala back, and they are hoping to see him traded to the Mavericks. There are a few good reasons to make such a claim. If Dallas is out of playoff contention in mid-to-late February, they will probably agree to a buyout with Iggy. If this happens, he may re-sign with the Warriors for an expected playoff boost.

We will have to wait and see what happens next this summer. Will Iguodala join Stephen Curry and the rest of the Warriors?
