Staggering Stephen Curry And D’Angelo Russell’s Minutes Is A Must

The Golden State Warriors lost Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala and many others in free agency. Klay Thompson is expected to miss most of the season. However, the team is packed with talent. Stephen Curry and D’Angelo Russell will have big roles this season.

Head coach Steve Kerr will have to be careful when making lineups. The creation of lineups will affect every game in the season. Thompson will be gone for quite some time, and Kerr will have to stagger the minutes of Curry and Russell. They are the Warriors’ two high-level, playmaking point guards.

Russell averaged 21.1 points per game last season and got his first All-Star appearance. He joined the franchise off a sign-and-trade, and the team will give him a big role in their offensive play.

What about Curry? He averaged 35 points per game in the Western Conference Finals, and averaged over 25 points per game for the past four years.

The Warriors will have to find a solution to their biggest problem at the moment. It’s their depth. The franchise is unable to get a quality bench with mediocre playmaking. They have two dominant guards, and Kerr will have to make a decision on Curry and Russell. He can’t have them both at the same time.

Russell isn’t expected to start on the bench, but he may lead the second unit, playing the most of the first quarter. He may also hit the bench five minutes into the game, and then finish the first and half the second with the bench.

These two options are pretty possible. Curry will take the starting unit, and Kerr may find a way to bring them both on the floor to finish off the match. This may lead to a defensive horror for the Dubs which is far from ideal.

The Warriors’ two superstar guards can play off-ball, but that’s not their strength. Curry can be tricky a times and he is brilliant in the postseason. The Warriors lost their chance to win another title, and that may motivate Curry to try even harder this season. Let’s see what happens this season.
