Bill Belichick Addresses On Tom Brady’s Contract Status With Pats

During Wednesday press conference, The New England Patriots head coach was asked about the contract situation of Tom Brady, who still hasn’t received an extension entering the final year of his deal.

Belichick declined to address a possible extension for Tom Brady.

“Do you expect to have a new contract or contract extension in place for Tom Brady before the start of the regular season?” a reporter asked.

“Yeah, I’m not going to talk about player contracts or any other contracts for that matter,” Belichick replied.

Recent reports indicate that no extension is imminent. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, an extension beyond the 2019 season “[isn’t] on the horizon at this point.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter also shared his thoughts on the matter. “I think that at some point New England would want to revisit that,” Schefter told InsideHook earlier this week of a Brady contract extension. “He’s a great bargain and he’s as valuable as any player in football. He’s arguably the greatest player of all time so you’d think New England would want to lock him up as long as he wants to continue playing beyond this year. So, if he wants that deal, I’m sure they’ll get that deal done.”

The reports echoed what Brady told reporters in June. He dismissed questions about his contract status: “That’s none of your business. I’ve never really talked about my contract or anything like that so I don’t really want to start doing that now.”

Belichick delivered similar response on the question regarding Sony Michel’s current status.

“I think Sony’s working hard. I think we have a lot of players that are in a lot of different stages of physical – let’s call it – readiness at this point in time. We’re just going to take it day by day. That’s how it goes,” the head coach told reporters.
