Report: Patriots Are Interested For Trading Redskins’ Top Offensive Tackle

Washington Redskins star offensive tackle Trent Williams has been put on the trade block and guess who’s interested? The New England Patriots!

The defending Super Bowl champions are reportedly considering the trade, which means Williams could potentially become a Patriot.

Williams was selected by Washington as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, but the organization has now decided to trade him away.

The star left tackle hasn’t attended training camp and the Redskins are already moving on. They recently signed Corey Robinson and Donald Penn in order to fill in the gaps.

Reporter Dov Kleiman suggested that Williams may be looking for a pay raise after signing a 5-year, $66 million in 2015, so that’s something the Patriots should take into consideration regarding singing the 31-year-old Oklahoma product.

New England currently has just $7.49 million in cap space, so it would need to do some serious maneuvering to swing a trade with Washington for Williams.

Adding a player of Williams’ caliber would make New England even more dangerous, which is why probably every other team in the NFL is against such trade. Williams would be an instant-impact guy and would be an improvement on a very good year for the Patriots.

Williams established himself as one of the best blindside protectors in the league over the last years. Health, however, has been a major concern, causing him to miss three games last season. Still, that won’t stop teams from trying to land a tackle of Williams’ level.
