Kawhi Leonard To Lakers: ‘Positive’ Talks Held As Free Agency Decision Moves Closer

Kawhi Leonard had positive talks with Magic Johnson, and there are so many rumors regarding his possible contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

NBA free agency started off on Sunday evening. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving joined the Brooklyn Nets. Kemba Walker reached an agreement with the Boston Celtics. The Milkwaukee Bucka and Philadelphia 76ers re-signed stars from last season.

Leonard keeps making headlines. He is in the center of all events. The reigning NBA Finals MVP will make a franchise-altering decision in the next few weeks.

Whenever he chooses to land, that franchise will have a better chance of winning a title. The Los Angeles Clippers and Toronto Raptors were considered favorites to sign Leonard. However, the Lakers may jump into the big game.

Leonard requested a meeting with former Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson. Some say that his meeting has already happened.

LA Times’ Tania Ganguli and Brad Turner reported that Johnson talked to Leonard and his uncle. The talks are considered “positive,”and Leonard may join the Lakers in near future.

Magic Johnson spoke with Leonard and his uncle, Dennis Robertson, on Sunday, Johnson told The Times,” Ganguli and Turner wrote.

“According to people familiar with the discussion, they had a positive conversation about the direction of the Lakers.”

Leonard is also expected to meet with the Lakers in the next few days.

“While Leonard’s camp had initially requested that only Lakers controlling owner Jeanie Buss be present from the Lakers’ front office, they are now considering expanding the meeting to include Pelinka,” they added.

“The uncle’s questions were ‘what’s really going on in the organization between you, Jeanie, Rob Pelinka, everyone? Is it as dysfunctional as we’re reading and hearing?’” Turner reported. “And the response was ‘we had some issues, but we’re past that. I’m past that. We’re still a family, such as you fight with your brothers and sisters sometimes, well, I had somewhat of a disagreement with my sister.

“And Rob Pelinka, yes, I said he was a back-stabber, but that happened then. Now I want the Lakers to be a championship team. Having Kawhi here would do that.”
