Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins is expected to miss the 2019-20 season. Well, it’s not like he started it. Cousins’ season ended before it began. The newly acquired player suffered a second season-ending injury in three years. Cousins tore his ACL, and this is bad for his future as elite center.

Cousins was playing a pickup game when he suffered the injury. The information was confirmed by several sources, including ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

“Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins has suffered a serious knee injury, league sources told ESPN on Thursday.

“The initial fear is that Cousins has a torn ACL, but nothing is expected to be known for certain until he undergoes further tests in Los Angeles on Thursday, sources told ESPN. Cousins, a four-time All-Star, is expected to meet with Lakers team physicians, sources said.

“Cousins, 29, was working out in Las Vegas on Monday when he had to leave the court after what one source described as “bumping knees” with another player. He suffered an Achilles tendon tear while playing for New Orleans during the 2017-18 season, and he missed several weeks with Golden State last season with a quadriceps injury.

“Cousins, who has averaged 21.2 points and 10.9 rebounds over his nine NBA seasons, signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Lakers in July. He’s part of a Lakers team expected to be among the NBA’s elite this season.

It’s interesting to note that Cousins didn’t get injured during team activities.

Following his Achilles injury during the final season as a player with the New Orleans Pelicans, Cousins suffered his second worst injury that a center can have.

This is devastating in several aspects, and the Los Angeles Lakers better have a backup plan for this case. Cousins was an All-NBA player at the time, and now h is an injury liability. Simple as that. Lakers fans will have to get over this.

“He was going to be a big part of what we’re going to do,” Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma told reporters at Team USA Basketball practice.

The Lakers are running out of luck.
