Bill Belichick Gives Most Open-Ended Answer About Josh Gordon

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t really like to talk about the situation in the team, and wasn’t in the mood of answering questions about Josh Gordon and his reinstatement. Well, it’s not like he wasn’t in the mood. Belichick doesn’t talk a lot. That’s all.

Belichick is famous for his brief and blunt answers about the Patriots. His players went to halftime during the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, and the head coach had an interview with WBZ’s Steve Burton.

When asked if he had anything to say and add to the statement he made Friday, Belichick said, “No.”

Burton asked him again, and Belichick gave another brief answer. “No, that’s why I put out the statement,” he said.

“For the past eight months, Josh’s situation has been entirely a league matter,” Belichick said in his statement. “When Josh returns to our program, we will evaluate the entire situation and do what we feel is best for Josh and the team.”

The head coach was among the first to talk to the receiver after his suspension.

“I spoke with Josh yesterday morning as I have several times since he’s been here. It’s obviously an unfortunate situation. Personally, I wish him the very best as we all do on this team. He’s made a statement. The organization has made a statement. The league’s made a statement. I’ve spoken (about) him at length over the last three months. So, I don’t really have anything at this point to add to that. It’s a private matter. Hopefully he’s able to deal with it successfully.”

But, Belichick didn’t lose time wining over Gordon’s suspension.

We have a lot of good players,” Belichick said in his news conference. “We have a lot of people that have contributed and performed well for us. I have a lot of confidence in them and the whole team.

“Phil’s tremendous. He’s a tremendous kid. Great teammate. I think he has everybody’s total respect in the locker room on everything — his preparation, the way he treats other people, how unselfish he is, how he’s always ready for his role. You saw that in the Super Bowl last year (when Dorsett replaced an injured Brandin Cooks midway through the game).

“I don’t think you can ask for anything more than what he gives the team.”
