Kyle Kuzma Discusses Role Alongside LeBron James, Anthony Davis For 2019-20 NBA Season

LeBron James and Anthony Davis will get pretty much all the attention this season. But, Kyle Kuzma is really optimistic about his role on the floor.

Kuzma is the only young player remaining, and his future development will be of great importance for the team. He talked to Mike Trudell about his role.

“Just being able to hit open shots. Obviously, Bron and AD… they’re going to have a lot of attention. A lot of the defense is going to be geared on those guys, so just do what I’ve been doing… nothing different. Hit shots, being a great cutter, running the floor, and being a good teammate.”

Kuzma doesn’t have any problem with his work ethic. His motivation is huge, and he plans to be the third best player on the roster.

“My motivation is there to be that third guy,” Kuzma said, “for the simple fact that playing with LeBron, with AD, I got high dreams for myself to do some pretty special things in my career. So that’s motivation in itself. It’s a testament to my work ethic and laying down the groundwork for my past two years being in the league.

The Laker told Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN that he is ready to play his best game.

I don’t feel no pressure, but I believe that I am capable of being that superstar,” Kuzma told ESPN. “I put a lot of work in. My progress through my journey shows that I can be there. I developed every single year, dating back to college, and I don’t see that development stunting at all.”

We all make mistakes, and Kuzma is well aware of his.

“Last year I didn’t shoot the ball well, and I still averaged almost 20 [points per game]. If I can shoot the ball well and keep developing the facets of my game defensively, I don’t see why I can’t [be that third star].”

However, LeBron likes where he is going.

“He’s not allowing anybody to put a cap on him and saying he’s just a scorer, I think he wants to be more than that,” he said of Kuzma. “He’s continuing to get better and better, not just offensively but defensively. He’s just playing all-round solid basketball. His ability to make plays, his ability to rebound as of late, obviously we know how well he can score, but he wants to make more of an impact not just for himself but for the team.”
