NFL Stars Roast Birthday Boy Tom Brady; Patriots Quarterback Fires Back

Saturday was a special day for Tom Brady as the star quarterback turned 42 years old. Of course, his fellow NFL colleagues rose to the occasion.

In honor of Brady’s birthday, a handful of the league’s best sent celebratory messages to the New England Patriots quarterback. Considering the fact that Brady is now considered ‘a senior’ in the league, the remarks expectedly were a mix of friendly roasting and sincerity.

Check out the video below, which includes words from Deshaun Watson, Zach Ertz, Saquon Barkley, Drew Brees and new Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed, among others.

“He falls into that big brother category,” said running back Brandon Bolden. “That’s my guy. I love Tom.”

“He’s no different to the men left and to the right of him,” said Jason McCourty. “He just really assimilates and is one of the guys here.”

The themes of longevity and dominance weren’t lost on the Indianapolis Colts’ Eric Ebron in his message to Brady.

“It would be nice if you just hurried up and retired so some of us can win a Super Bowl,” Ebron said.

Brady wasn’t going to let it slide so quietly, though. The six-time Super Bowl champion fired back on the clip with a message for everyone who trolled him.

Drawing closer to Week 1, Brady will become the first QB to start the opening week of a season at 42 or older since Vinny Testaverde in 2007.

Testaverde will still hold tight to the distinction of being the eldest signal-caller to start a game as he was 44 during his final three starts in the 2007 season.

However, with the way Brady is going, though, it’ll be no surprise to see him celebrate his 44th birthday ahead of his 22nd season. After all, he’s coming off a sixth Super Bowl win.

For now, he’s celebrating this birthday amid another training camp preparing for another season of defying age and prognosticators of the Patriots’ dynastic downfall.
