Report :Patriots’ C David Andrews Hospitalized With Blood Clot

The New England Patriots will open the regular season without their starting center. This was a terrible news for the Patriots nation as the beginning of the season is almost here. David Andrews was hospitalized with a blood clot in his lungs, and he is expected to miss a big portion of the season. The information was confirmed by several sources, including NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

“The Patriots have taken their first significant medical hit of 2019,” Howe wrote. “Starting center David Andrews has been hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs, and his season is in jeopardy, according to sources. The expectation is that he’ll miss a significant amount of time.

“Andrews, a captain since 2017, has started 57 regular-season games and nine playoff games during his career. He split time with Bryan Stork in 2015 before winning the job on a fulltime basis in 2016. Andrews has started every postseason game during the Patriots’ three consecutive trips to the Super Bowl.

“Quarterback Tom Brady has gained an immense amount of trust in Andrews since his rookie season. Brady has credited Andrews with seeing the game through the same vantage point, which has helped him relay the blocking signals at the line of scrimmage. Andrews, who is signed through 2020, has also markedly improved with his blocking assignments over the years.”

The Boston Globe’s Jim McBride reported that the Patriots’ starting center has been released from the hospital.

Andrew’s injury history isn’t really long. The team signed Andrews to a three-year contract extension worth $9 million in May 2017. The starter was set to earn $3.1 million in 2019.

Behind Andrews on the Patriots’ depth chart is Ted Karras. The fourth-year guard played 45 games with five starts. He will probably fit in at center. Isaiah Wynn and Joe Thuney will be on his left, and Shaq Mason and Marcus Cannon are taking his right side.

The Patriots’ offensive line will have to build their continuity real fast. The season opener is in 13 days, and the Pats are playing the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nobody thought that Andrews will go.
