Report: Raiders Planning To Suspend Antonio Brown After Incident Between WR And GM Mike Mayock

Antonio Brown is giving the Oakland Raiders a terrible headache, and it looks like his head hurts, too.

The reality here is that the offseason drama is likely enough for the #Raiders to void the $29M of salary guarantee. They can also go after the $1M signing bonus based on missed practices, etc… meaning Antonio Brown could then be released with $0 dead cap.

Brown got in a thing with the general manager after he was fined, and the situation got really heated.

“Short and sweet: Antonio Brown’s not in the building today, he won’t be practicing,” Mayock told reporters Thursday at the team’s facility in Alameda, Calif. “I don’t have any more information for you right now, and when I have some and it becomes appropriate, you guys will all get it, I promise you, but that’s it for today.”

Coach Jon Gruden spoke to media members after team’s practice. He said they would make an official announcement later Thursday.

“We’ve been practicing without him and preparing to play,” Gruden said. “No matter who’s injured, you have to play. Unfortunately, we had to adapt again today.”

“We’re still getting to the bottom of everything,” Gruden said. “All I can do is comment on the football team. I’m out here on the field coaching the guys that are here. And we’ve got a lot of guys working hard. So we’ll give you the information on Antonio when we have it official and correct and right. I don’t want to speculate any further. I can’t do it.”

On Wednesday, Brown shared the photo of a letter he had received from the general manager informing him that he had been fined $13,950 for missing a walk-through on Aug. 22 before the Raiders’ third exhibition game with the Packers. This fine was added to the $40,000 he was fined for missing the final practice of training camp on Aug. 18. Mayock didn’t like he way Brown treated the organization, and told reporters that “from our perspective, it’s time for him to be all in, or all out.”

Brown couldn’t hide his displeasure with the fines.

“When your own team want to hate but there’s no stopping me now devil is a lie,” he wrote. “Everyone got to pay this year so we clear.”

We are waiting for an official announcement for the team. It won’t be good for Brown, and this incident was the last thing he needed.
