Report: Original Boston Patriots Running Back Passed Away

The Patriots nation was saddened to learn of the loss of original Boston Patriots running back Larry Garron. Garron was playing with the original Boston Patriots team from 1960 through the 1968 season. The former running back passed away at 82 years.

The team released a statement to send their message of love and support for the family. Larry Garron deserves words of praise and respect for everything he has done in his professional career. He was a true representative of the organization and has been part of the Patriots family since the very beginning. New England wouldn’t be this powerful without the legacy of the original Boston Patriots like Garron. They contributed to the organization in several aspects.

“On behalf of the entire Patriots organization, I want to extend our sincerest sympathies to the Garron family,” said Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft. “This year marks the 60th anniversary season for this franchise and Larry has represented this organization and been a member of the Patriots family since Day 1. We owe a debt of gratitude to Larry and all of the original Boston Patriots like him. Without their many contributions, we would not be the franchise that we are today. Our condolences go out to all who are mourning Larry’s loss.”

Garron was born on May 23, 1937, in Marks Mississippi. He started his college career at Western Illinois, and then joined the Patriots for the inaugural season in 1960 and played with them through the 1968 season. Garron finished his professional career with 2,981 rushing yards. This ranks him ninth on the Patriots all-time rushing list. Garron holds the record for the longest run in Patriots history with his 85-yard touchdown run against Buffalo on Oct. 22, 1961.

Garron was a proficient receiver and had 5,483 yards from scrimmage. He had 40 touchdowns in 99 career games with 18 starts.

The former Patriot was a four-time American Football League All-Star, and earned his honors in 1961, 1963, 1964 and 1967. Garron was also playing with the Patriots All-1960s Team.

We send our thoughts and prayers to the Garron family.
