Frank Vogel Broke Silence On Storyline About LeBron Playing Point Guard For Lakers

There’s growing speculation regarding LeBron James’ role on the floor for the upcoming season. Some say he will step in as a point guard. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel decided to address this speculation.

In an interview with Mike Trudell, Vogel said LeBron has always been the team’s primary ball-handler.

Trudell asked, “There was one storyline earlier this summer about LeBron playing point guard, and my thought was … well, he’s always had the ball on offense and run the show because he’s great at it, but he’s not going to guard point guards. So, nothing new here…”

Vogel was pretty sure about his response.

“Correct, obviously, it’s an offensive role. It would be an offensive mindset. I went back and watched all of our playoff games from the last year we played Miami, just to look at that balance specifically, and (Mario) Chalmers and Norris Cole never brought the ball up. Almost the entire series. LeBron handled it the entire time. It’s not anything that’s going to be new if we play line ups with LeBron as the primary ballhandler. He’ll be in that role some, and he’ll be in a role with a true point guard too.”

When it comes to LeBron, we believe he doesn’t really pay attention to this speculation. The only thing that comes to his mind whenever someone mentions the big game is “win.” He missed the playoffs last season, and he is definitely ready for a title this season.

In an interview with The Athletic’s Joe Vardon, LeBron said being counted out was his biggest motivation.

“I like being counted out. It motivates me,” LeBron Vardon. “I’ve had basically the same offseason training regimen the last eight years. I knew how long I wanted to rest for the season on a short timeline. I’m figuring out now how to get as much as I can out of two months of extra time for training. It requires a totally different strategy. We’re looking at it in an entirely new way.”This season is of utmost importance for LeBron. He was heavily criticized last season, and hopefully, he will stay healthy in 2019.
