Antonio Brown Agrees To Terms With Patriots On One-Year Deal

The New England Patriots signed Antonio Brown. Just like that.

Brown had a messy tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and his game with the Oakland Raiders ended before Week 1 of the regular season. So, Brown decided to go to New England.

A few hours after the Raiders released him, Brown agreed to a one-year deal worth $15 million with the Patriots. The information was confirmed by several sources, adding that Brown’s deal has a $9 million signing bonus.

Brown was able to catch 104 passes for 1,297 yards and 15 touchdowns in 15 games for the Steelers in 2018. He confirmed the new deal on Instagram.

The newly acquired Patriot is one of the top receivers of his generation. Brown was selected to seven Pro Bowls and four All-Pro first teams. His 74 touchdown passes since 2010 rank him second among all NFL players behind Rob Gronkowski.

Brown will join Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, Demaryius Thomas, Phillip Dorsett, Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski in a Patriots receiving unit. If all players stay healthy and fit for the season, the Patriots will have the best receiving unit in the NFL.

The former Raider didn’t have much luck with his boss.

“Short and sweet: Antonio Brown’s not in the building today, he won’t be practicing,” Mayock told reporters Thursday at the team’s facility in Alameda, Calif. “I don’t have any more information for you right now, and when I have some and it becomes appropriate, you guys will all get it, I promise you, but that’s it for today.”

Coach Joe Gruden didn’t know what happened.

“We’ve been practicing without him and preparing to play,” Gruden said. “No matter who’s injured, you have to play. Unfortunately, we had to adapt again today.

“We’re still getting to the bottom of everything,” Gruden said. “All I can do is comment on the football team. I’m out here on the field coaching the guys that are here. And we’ve got a lot of guys working hard. So we’ll give you the information on Antonio when we have it official and correct and right. I don’t want to speculate any further. I can’t do it.”
