NFL Officially Between A Rock And A Hard Place With Antonio Brown Following Latest Development

Antonio Brown won’t face any criminal charges for at least two of the offenses as suggested by the press release from the Allegheny County Police Department. The Patriots receiver won’t face charges on two sexual assault allegations in June due to the statute of limitations for these crime, police says. If you know anything about federal law, you probably know that sexual assault cases older than two years cannot generate a criminal charge.

“What this means is that, at least for the first two alleged offenses committed by Antonio Brown, there will be no criminal inquiry,” Rapoport reported. “That is potentially significant, as it relates to his eligibility and status to continue playing.”

“Our office, along with the Allegheny County Police Department, made contact with counsel for the plaintiff in the federal lawsuit involving Antonio Brown. Procedurally, it appears there is a statute of limitations issue in moving forward with any inquiry involving the Allegheny County allegations mentioned in the lawsuit,” reads the statement.

If the receiver was to face criminal charges, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell could place him on the commissioner’s exempt list. Without the charges, the NFL can’t punish Brown.

Allegheny County officials reportedly contacted the lawyer of Britney Taylor regarding the first two accusations.

“Our office, along with the Allegheny County Police Department, made contact with counsel for the plaintiff in the federal lawsuit involving Antonio Brown,” the Allegheny County DA told NFL Network in response to an inquiry. “Procedurally, it appears there is a statute of limitations issue moving forward with any inquiry involving the Allegheny County allegation mentioned in the lawsuit.”

Two of the assaults took place in Florida. ESPN reports that, “Brown masturbated near her without her knowledge and did a ‘dirty thing’ on her back, then later bragged about it in a series of text messages, Taylor alleges in the lawsuit. Taylor also says that in May 2018, after a night out at a Miami-area club, she went back to Brown’s home in Miami to use the bathroom and have some food, and Brown ‘forced her down onto a bed, pushed her face into the mattress and forcibly raped her.’”
