Report: ‘No Indication’ Antonio Brown Will Definitely Be Disciplined

The New England Patriots have been practicing as if Antonio Brown will join the team Sunday. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that the NFL hasn’t made a definite decision on Brown’s status. The receiver was accused of sexual assault and rape, but denied the accusations.

“There’s been no decision from the league about Antonio Brown’s playing status, and if you look at — as (Mike) Giardi mentioned — what the Patriots have done, he was on the practice field getting ready on Wednesday as if he was playing,” Rapoport said Thursday. “He was on the practice field today Thursday getting ready as if he is playing. If there is nothing from the league — and I have received no indication right now that there definitely will be — then it would make sense that he would go out there and play unless there is something football-wise that would keep him off the field.

“Maybe the Patriots don’t feel he’s ready to pick up the gameplan or cannot contribute. Either way, no one has ruled it out yet, but barring something unforeseen, it’s moving in the direction of Antonio Brown being on the field Sunday amid everything that we’ve been talking about earlier and over the past couple days.”

The NFL won’t be able to suspend Brown before Sunday. Roger Goodell may place the receiver on the commissioner’s exempt list, but this won’t happen this week because Brown’s accuser, won’t talk to the NFL until next week.
The NFL Commissioner may place Brown on the exempt list, and if this happens, the receiver may miss the remainder of the 2019 season even if the league doesn’t suspend him.

“The commissioner’s exempt list essentially is paid leave, though Brown still could be allowed inside Gillette Stadium to attend meetings and receive treatment,” NESN’s Doug Kyed explained. “Only NFL commissioner Roger Goodell can place a player on the exempt list. Brown would not take up a spot on the 53-man roster, and he could not practice or play in games if placed on the exempt list.”

Things are getting really hot in Foxboro. Let’s see what happens next week.
