Report: Patriots Trading Demaryius Thomas To Jets For 2021 Draft Pick

The New England Patriots like playing games, and they also like making changes. Most of the changes they have made in the past have increased their chance of winning the Super Bowl. What happens when a new receiver joins the team? One has to go out. This time it’s Demaryius Thomas.

The Patriots signed Antonio Brown to a one-year deal worth $15 million. Thomas had to go somewhere else. The team wanted Brown when he was playing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they didn’t wanted him to become a Patriot. So, Brown’s drama with the Raiders served for a great purpose. Head coach Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the rest of the guys accepted him right away. Unfortunately, Thomas has to join the New Jork Jets.

The information was confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s interesting to see the Patriots send Thomas to their rivals. Julian Edelman liked him a lot.

“I think it’s awesome having a guy like Demaryius in there,” he said after Friday’s practice. “He’s a veteran-type guy. He’s made a lot of big plays in this league. He’s had a lot of production in this league. He’s played in a lot of big games. Anytime you have someone like that in your room it’s awesome. The younger guys get to see how he prepares and how a professional is supposed to look.”

This is Thomas’ fourth team in the past year. He was playing with the Broncos, Texans and Patriots. This is also his second trade this year.

Thomas was a five-time Pro Bowler during his tenure with the Broncos. He was excellent in the Patriots’ preseason finale and had seven catches on eight targets for 87 yards and two touchdowns. He missed all of training camp, and his hamstring injury kept him out of the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Well, the Patriots had to think their receiving unit. Brown is more than enough. The Patriots will confront the Miami Dolphins in Week 2 with Brown, Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, Phillip Dorsett, Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski in the receiving corps.

N’Keal Harry is on injured reserve and Cameron Meredith is on the PUP list. They will return in Weeks 9 and 7, respectively.
