Report: Patriots Work Out Veteran Receiver, Three Tight Ends

The New England Patriots finished their story with Antonio Brown. They are off to another veteran receiver, and they have already invited him for a workout with the team. The information was confirmed by several sources, including NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

A day after being released by the Oakland Raiders, Ryan Grant arrived at Gillette Stadium for a workout with the team.

Grant will enter his sixth season in the league. He played just three games with the Raiders after signing with Jon Gruden’s team in April. He was able to catch four passes on nine targets for 19 yards in Weeks 1 and 2, but became a healthy scratch for Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Before signing with Oakland, Grant played four seasons with the Washington Redskins and one with the Indianapolis Colts. The 28-year-old’s best season was in 2017 which is his final season with the Redskins. Grant caught 45 passes for 573 yards and four touchdowns. In 2017, he caught 35 passes for 334 yards and one score in 14 games for the Colts.

Brown is out of the squad for good, but the Patriots are really packed at wide receiver. Julian Edelman has the first spot, and Josh Gordon is right next to him. Phillip Dorsett is a No. 3 option. Undrafted rookie Jakobi Meyers is fourth in the group. Wideout/punt returner Gunner Olszewski saw a little action outside special teams.

The patriots may also add two players to this group in the next few weeks. Cameron Meredith is injured, and first-round pick N’Keal Harry will join the team in Week 9. Meredith is coming in Week 7. The Patriots will have to look for an option for these two.

The team was plagued with injuries. Edelman left Sunday’s game due to a chest injury. Gordon got a nasty hit but finished the game. Injuries may be the only concern head coach Bill Belichick has at the moment.

New England also worked out tight ends Ben Koyack, Gabe Holmes, and Eric Tomlinson as confirmed by ESPN’s Field Yates.

The team has just two tight ends on the roster. Ryan Izzo and Matt LaCosse are injured. Ben Watson’s suspension ends next week.
