Tom Brady Recalls Warning Bill Belichick Issued Early In His QB’s Career

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady plays smart on the field, and you don’t get to see him take off and run upfield. Wonder why? Quarterbacks should never rush the out of the pocket because they may get injured really easily. Defenders never go easy on signal-callers who expose themselves as runners. Head coach Bill Belichick was pretty serious about this rushing game, and he even had a warning for TB12 in his early career.

Josh Allen wasn’t warned about this. The Bills quarterback was hit in the head which forced him to leave the game. Brady had a similar hit in his career, and Belichick had to warn him.

“I had a play like that up in Buffalo … I remember the next day Coach Belichick said to me – I’ll never forget this – ‘Hey Brady, if you want to have a career in this league, when you’re running like that, you throw the ball away or slide,” Brady said Monday on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” as transcribed by ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

When it comes to Allen’s head injury, the Bills head coach doesn’t really like the idea that Jonathan Jones remained on the field.

“It’s disappointing because there’s no room for that kind of play in the NFL,” Sean McDermott said Sunday.

NFL Senior Vice President of Officiating Al Riveron reviewed the hit in the NFL’s New York office, and provided an explanation for their decision to keep Jones on the field.

“Well, we looked at it and in this situation, we didn’t feel that that contact rose to the level of an ejection,” Riveron told Bills pools reporter Vic Carucci. “The player (Allen) actually turns. Obviously, there is helmet contact, but we have standards for an ejection, and this did not rise to that standard; therefore, we did not eject him. There was a foul called and obviously the penalty stood, but we did not feel this contact rose to that level.”

Well, this is a thing of NFL officials. The Patriots won the game despite their struggles on offense. They are off to another big win, and it will be their fifth this season.
