Watch: Stephen A. Smith Wears Tom Brady Jersey, Trolls Bunch Of Cowboys Fans

Stephen A. Smith knows how to make people talk. He is one of the greatest supporters Tom Brady will ever have. Smith opened up Friday’s show riling fans up, suggesting that the New England Patriots as the real “America’s Team.” He held a big cigar and wore a ten-gallon hat as a perfect finish for his outfit.

Smith didn’t like the way Philip Rivers disrespected Brady.

“This is the bottom line: Tom Brady is 207-60 as a regular-season quarterback. His record is 30-10 in the postseason, OK? You’re talking about a completion percentage that pretty much stays the same from the regular season to the postseason,” Smith said on ESPN’s “First Take.” “Philip Rivers, with all due respect, I don’t wanna hear a damn word from you. You’re 5-6 in the postseason. You’ve never played in a Super Bowl once. It’s one thing for a pundit or commentator to say something about Tom Brady in comparison to others. But you, Philip Rivers? While you’re still playing, be quiet. I respect Philip Rivers, but damn it, no. You can’t be talking about Tom Brady.”

The host had a very specific opinion on Brady’s contract extension.

“Tom Brady has had New England’s back, let’s be very very clear about that. Restructuring his deals, taking pay cuts, taking less money, he’s done all of that. And, oh by the way, at 42 years of age this Saturday, he is the starting quarterback for the reigning Super Bowl champions.”

But, he doesn’t like Brady’s quarterback salary.

“[Wilson] should not be paid more than Tom Brady,” Smith said. “I think that Tom Brady should be the highest-paid quarterback in the National Football League, and I don’t think anyone can dispute that.

“I believe in excellence being rewarded. When you consider the fact that this is a six-time Super Bowl champion, a multiple league MVP. When you think about what Tom Brady brings to the table — I’m very big on résumés. …The fact of the matter is Tom Brady is universally recognized by everybody as being the greatest who’s ever lived. He’s still playing, he’s standing here now as a reigning Super Bowl champion. He’s been to the last two Super Bowls. I’m sorry, I’ve never seen Russell Wilson at a Super Bowl in years. I’m of the mindset — again, I’m happy for Russell Wilson. He deserves the money, don’t get me wrong. But when we ask the question about who should be the highest-paid player, I think the highest producers should ultimately be paid and Tom Brady’s résumé is incomparable right now.”
