Report: Anthony Davis Suffers Thumb Injury In Game Vs. Nets
The Los Angeles Lakers lost the preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday at Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzhen, China.
This was the end of the two-game exhibition series in China between the Nets and the Lakers that was followed by a controversy after Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey expressed his support for Hong Kong protesters.
China’s broadcasters said they wouldn’t show the games, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made a statement saying that the NBA isn’t in a position to address the human-rights issues abroad.
“It is inevitable that people around the world—including from America and China—will have different viewpoints over different issues. It is not the role of the NBA to adjudicate those differences.
“However, the NBA will not put itself in a position of regulating what players, employees and team owners say or will not say on these issues. We simply could not operate that way.”
The games were played regularly, and Chinese fans appeared in Shanghai and Shenzhen to see their favorite players. LeBron James and Anthony Davis gathered a big crowd. Kyrie Irving missed the game due to a facial injury.
Need stats? Here are just a few:
LeBron James (LAL): 6 PTS, 4 AST, 3 REB
Anthony Davis (LAL): 6 PTS, 3 REB, 2 BLK (left with a thumb injury)
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (LAL): 11 PTS, 6 REB
Avery Bradley (LAL): 14 PTS, 4 REB
Caris LeVert (BKN): 22 PTS, 5 AST, 4 REB, 3 STL
Taurean Prince (BKN): 14 PTS, 4 REB
DeAndre Jordan (BKN): 4 PTS, 11 REB
It was a big loss for the Lakers, and they have to fix the damage. Hopefully, they will strengthen their chemistry and fill the void. The Lakers made a lot of changes to their roster, and it’s almost impossible to have instant chemistry on the court. Davis suffered a thumb injury, and hopefully he will get that fixed.
The Lakers shot just 33.7 percent from the field, including 15.6 percent on threes and 63.2 percent on free throws. The players also turned the ball over 20 times as the offense was out of sync at times, even when both stars were on the floor.
