Frank Vogel: Lakers Have ‘Two Offensive Monsters’ In LeBron James And Anthony Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers have two great stars on the roster, and head coach Frank Vogel is pretty satisfied with this year’s roster. LeBron James plans to run the offense through the former Pelican, but Vogel will probably have the final word. He will figure it out, and the two offensive monsters will help him a lot.

It’s more than obvious that everything will go through Davis and LeBron. In the Lakers’ first preseason game, LeBron was the point guard and played like the primary playmaker to start.

Vogel described the Lakers offense perfectly in an interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio. He said that the offense will go through Davis and LeBron, adding that the “open man” will be the focal point of the team’s offense this season.

“The open man is the focal point, quite frankly. We have two offensive monsters, but it’s going to be about the open man. That’s what we have to accomplish. If we’re a team that doesn’t play for each other and doesn’t become a team-first team, we’re going to be limited even with those great offensive talents. We’re going to have the mindset that yes, we’re playing through those guys, but we’re going to attack to draw two and find the open man.”

The head coach also talked about the way Rob Pelinka assembled the team.

“Getting them to play together and to come together quite frankly… not just to play together. But I love the way the team has been put together by Rob Pelinka. I really do. Obviously, it starts with the two pillars in Anthony and LeBron… just two of the game’s best. And then the surrounding parts… that’s what I’m equally as excited about. You want to put as many shooters around those guys as you can and we have an army of shooters. You want to put lengthy defenders around those guys to make sure that you got a great defense and we have JaVale, Dwight, and obviously AD can do that as well. And then you want to have perimeter defenders, so we have a lot of versatility. I think we have the parts that fit and it’s really going to be about whether we come together and how quickly we come together.”
