Patriots’ Danny Shelton Posts Message About Adversity Amid Breakout Season

The New England Patriots couldn’t guarantee that they’d have Danny Shelton back on the field for the 2019 season.

Shelton agreed to a one-year deal in May and he will receive $1.03 million with $75.000 guaranteed. He joined the Patriots through a trade deal with the Cleveland Browns. He played 13 games with one start and two playoff contests. Now, Shelton says he can be himself again.

“That’s something that just knowing when they brought me back, the type of defense they were aiming for, that’s something that excited me,” Shelton said in August. “It gives me more of a feel of how I used to play.”

The Patriots like the way he handles the ball. “Just getting some film out there,” he said. “Really feel like I have more to do. I always feel like every week I have something to work on. I’m going to keep that mindset and keep improving every week.”

Although he showed great potential, it wasn’t enough to keep him out of a few situations during the season. He enjoys a breakout season now, and Pats say he became an integral part of the Patriots’ defensive line, mostly as a run-stuffer.

Shelton took to Instagram to deliver a message about adversity.

“Adversity Made Me The Man I Am Today. Every Injury, Every Challenge, Every Loss, Becomes Fuel That Keeps Me Motivated. I’m Determined To Be The Best Me! #OvercomeAdversity #DeterminedToBeTheBestMe #NFLYear5 #GotMyFamilyToFeed #ThePatriotWay”

Shelton and the Pats will play the New York Jets this Monday at MetLife Stadium.

The Patriots are off to a 6-0 start for the fourth time in team history and will definitely try to reach 7-0 for the second time (2007 and 2015) with a win over the New York Jets. The teams played at Gillette Stadium on Sept. 22, and the Patriots had a 30-14 win. The Patriots will be looking for the 20th series sweep over New York, 13th since Robert Kraft became owner of the team in 1994, 11th under coach Bill Belichick and fourth straight overall.

For the third time in team history (1990, 2911 and 2019) he Patriots will play back-to-back games against the New York teams. The Pats defeated the Giants at Gillette Stadium last Thursday, 35-14.
