ESPN’s Adam Schefter Gives Update On Patriots’ Rex Burkhead Status Vs. Browns

The New England Patriots will put Rex Burkhead on the field in the game against the Cleveland Browns.

Burkhead missed three games due to a foot injury, and was limited in Week 4. He is expected to play against the Browns as confirmed by Adam Schefter.

“Patriots’ RB Rex Burkhead, who missed the past three games with a foot injury, is expected to be active today against the Browns, per source.”

Head coach Bill Belichick has words of praise for the running back. He has always talked about Burkhead’s talent.

“Yeah, Rex has worked really hard, as he always does. So, we talked about it when I made the move and I talked to him about it. We had a lengthy discussion. I think we both had an understanding of what the situation was, what needed to be done and how to do it,” Belichick said of Burkhead a while ago.

“He’s been very diligent and consistent with his approach to it, and I’d say as we got closer to the opportunity to bring him back to being eligible to practice and then ultimately being eligible to play, he consistently met or exceeded kind of targets or things that he needed to show or do or be able to do to move forward. So, yeah, he’s done a great job and look forward to having him back.”

Burkhead is more than happy to play with the Patriots. “It feels great. I’m looking forward to being back here on the field on Sunday and just being back out here with the team, practicing again and being around the guys. The past few weeks, it’s been different. It’s been weird not being around everything, so it just feels good,” the running back said last season.

He has already been placed on injured reserve, and knows how bad it feels for a player to be limited in this way.

“It’s not fun, for sure. It’s something that I’ve never really dealt with for an extended period of time. But it puts things in perspective. It makes you really appreciate your time out on the football field and in the locker room with the guys. It makes you miss it, for sure. You’re just really appreciative for every moment you have, so I was definitely looking forward to when I could get back out there,” he said.
