Report: Patriots ‘Have Called’ On Emmanuel Sanders, Mohamed Sanu

The New England Patriots will probably try to seal another deal. Well, we knew that. Tom Brady’s team has called the Denver Broncos about the trade for wideout Emanuel Sanders. The information was confirmed by CLNS Media’s Evan Lazar. The Pats are also interested in Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Mohamed Sanu.

“There’s two names I think that Patriots fans should really pay attention to, and that is Emmanuel Sanders and Mohamed Sanu,” Lazar reported Friday. “The Patriots have called Denver on Emmanuel Sanders. They called them a few weeks ago. Denver said, ‘We’re not there yet, we’re not going to tear the whole thing down quiet yet. So, call us back closer to the deadline and we’ll see where we’re at, record-wise.’

“In the offseason, Mohamed Sanu was almost a Patriot. The Patriots had a deal in place for Mohamed Sanu. Atlanta backed out at the last second. … They wanted Mohamed Sanu at one point in time.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday the Broncos will be seeing offers for Sanders as the Oct. 29 deadline approaches. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as the 32-year-old is on an expiring contract and Denver is a longshot to make the playoffs.

“Denver traded fellow veteran receiver Demaryius Thomas to the Texans last year for a 2019 fourth-round pick, and sources told ESPN that the Broncos are expected to be seeking a higher form of compensation for Sanders, who is in the last year of his contract,” Schefter wrote. “Sanders likely would welcome a change of scenery, the Broncos would welcome a second-day draft pick for him, and the possibility of it happening by Oct. 29 is real, according to sources.”

Both Sanders and Sanu are good additions for New England.

Sanu has 32 catches for 310 yards and one touchdown this season. Sanders has 30 catches for 367 yards and two scores. The Falcons are 1-5 at the moment, and the Broncos are 2-5.

New England plays the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Monday night. The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 29. It’s a win for the Patriots. That’s what every expert said.
