Report: Warriors Have Settled On A Starting Small Forward

The Golden State Warriors will never find someone to replace Kevin Durant. Well, maybe we should say there’s zero chance of seeing another Durant in the Golden State. Well, the team has a big idea regarding their small forward, and it’s Glenn Robinson III.

Robinson will take the position Durant had for the past three seasons. Let’s not forget that the Golden State made five straight NBA Finals appearances, and they are a synonym of star power.

Robinson played 47 games for the Pistons last season. He scored a little over four points and one rebound per game. Robinson can shoot really well, but his biggest challenge will come on the defensive end.

During one of his first film sessions, Warriors coach Steve Kerr Kerr showed a football-centered video montage of free safeties getting burned on deep passes.

“Steve was like, ‘Y’all laughing but that’s how we should feel if we get beat over the top,” Robinson told media members after Friday’s preseason win over the Los Angeles Lakers. “The first thing is to stop the ball. No other coach has explained it that way. It was a good way to get everybody to wake up. It was different and to a way we understand it.”

The head coach has high opinion of his small forward.

“Glenn is rock solid,” Kerr said. “He understands his role, he understands it. He’s a good three-point shooter.”

Robinson is optimistic about his role on the team. “I’ve backed up Paul George, I’ve backed up a lot of guys in my time but here I had a unique situation,” Robinson said. “I really wanted the opportunity to take that and show what I can do.”

In the Golden State, Robinson will have to adjust to a new culture.

“He gets that we don’t need to be in here all day,” Robinson said of Kerr in an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area. “It’s about efficiency. So every other team I’ve had two-a-days, come back and you’re tired and you’re hurt. You can see how they’re just smart about things.”

Kerr plays smart here. Let’s hope that he won’t regret this decision.
