Magic Johnson Says ‘LeBron’s Playing As Well As I’ve Ever Seen Him Play’

Magic Johnson is out of the Los Angeles Lakers, and doesn’t hold a formal role with the team. But, that doesn’t mean that he ignores pretty much everything that happens to the team. Johnson left the front office in LA, but promised to stay close to the team in case they need his help. Well, it looks like the Lakers are doing just fine this season. They signed Anthony Davis and hired Frank Vogel as a head coach for the team.

LeBron James is leading the team to the NBA playoffs, and his teams contribute to the game. Davis leads the team in points, and he helps LeBron to set up the game. Everyone has improved significantly. Kyle Kuzma is on a good way to become the third best player on the Lakers roster, and Rajon Rondo is back to his alley-oops.

If you ask Magic Johnson, he will say that his former team is in good hands.

Magic Johnson is right

The former director of basketball operations talked at the 29th Annual Achilles Gala, and used the opportunity to discuss LeBron’s play. The event is a celebration of disabled athletes through Cigna and Achilles International.

“Right now — this season — he’s playing as well as I’ve ever seen him play,” Johnson said of the 34-year-old superstar. “You know, LeBron can see the floor. He’s a special player.”

LeBron is in his 17th NBA season and it’s his second season with the Lakers. His team has played fourteen regular season games, and LeBron averages 25 points per night and NBA-leading 11.1 assists per game. If his passing prowess continues throughout the season, that would be the first time in his career that his average assists per game meets double digits.

Magic Johnson is best known for his flashy dimes. He averaged 11.2 assists per game in his 13 seasons in Los Angeles. In four of those seasons, he led the NBA in assists, which means he really likes how LeBron became the league’s best distributor for the season.

“He’s scoring and putting up 25 points a night but also he’s leading the league in assists,” Johnson said. “Eleven assists — he’s just awesome. He’s doing his thing.”

The addition of Davis was a smart move, and he helps the team to dominate the rest of the NBA. The Lakers are 12-2 at this point of the season, and the best has yet to come. This season is full of surprises, and we really like what LA brings to the floor.
