Anthony Davis Admits To Dealing With Shoulder Injury

The Los Angeles Lakers had a really good start this season. LeBron James’ team is tied with the Denver Nuggets as the best team in the Western Conference with a 7-2 record. LA has one of the best defenses in the NBA led by LeBron and Anthony Davis. An early MVP candidate maybe? But, what about his shoulder injury?

In the first five weeks of the regular season, Davis has reminded pretty much every NBA fan that he is one of the best seasons in the NBA. He is averaging 26.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.2 and 3.1 blocks per game. His 40-point, 20-rebound performance is a rare thing in the league. Although he hasn’t missed a game this season, Davis says he deals with a slight discomfort in his right shoulder.

Following the Lakers’ 113-104 loss to the Raptors Sunday night, Davis said he earned his discomfort when he aggravated the right shoulder on a dunk attempt earlier this season.

According to the superstar, there’s really never a play he doesn’t feel it. However, he tries not to let it affect his game. Davis likes to play through the injury and then worry about soothing it after the game.

Davis hurt his right shoulder on one of his four blocks against the Raptors with three minutes remaining in the game. Right after the block, Davis grabbed his shoulder and moved his arm a little to try and work out the discomfort. Head coach Frank Vogel didn’t remove him from the game. The medical team examined Davis and “didn’t feel he needed to come out.”

Although he hasn’t missed time on the floor, Davis tends to sit on the bench with a heating pad on the shoulder to relieve the pain he feels during the game. This discomfort hasn’t affected Davis’ skills a lot, but the Lakers will now play in their first back-to-back of the regular season against the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.

Davis had a lot of time to rest in the first portion of the season, but he may not have that much time during this back-to-back portion.
