Julian Edelman’s Fumble vs. Baltimore Reminded Him Of High School Heartbreak

Patriots receiver Julian Edelman will always remember his fumble against the Baltimore Ravens. It happened at the wrong time. I mean, there isn’t such thing as “right time for a fumble.” But, this particular fumble reminds Edelman of a high school breakup.

This fumble wasn’t the first terrible turnover of his life. The receiver decided to talk about the fumble during his weekly interview on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.”

Edelman admitted that the third-quarter fumble against the Ravens was pretty much the same as the brutal turnover he committed as a sophomore in high school. Let’s not forget that Edelman’s fumble ended up with a 70-yard touchdown for the Ravens. Safety Marlon Humphrey picked it up, and put the lead up.

Let’s go back to Edelman’s heartbreak.

The receiver was playing in the championship game. It was a game between Woodside High School and Menlo Atherton. If by any chance you don’t remember, Edelman went to Woodside. They were tied with nine seconds to go. Menlo Atherton were on the 30-yard line, and Edelman was playing deep safety. The signal-caller went back and chucked the ball up. Edelman jumped for an interception and caught it.

He put his hand down in a “stumble-bum.” Players put the hand down to keep themselves up while they have the ball in the other hand. One of the players came and took the ball. He scored of course.

Edelman’s opponents won the game, they won the championship. It was a game between two undefeated teams and rivals. This type of mistakes cost a lot, and it’s something you can’t do.

You never forget a heartbreak

This looks like a heartbreak. Edelman must have felt bad after losing the ball.

The receiver found redemption two years later, and led Woodland to a 13-0 record and a title as a senior in 2004.

New England has a bye week, and Edelman will have to wait for the game between the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s a road game, and hopefully, the Pats won’t miss it. Edelman has already forgotten Sunday’s fumble. But, head coach Bill Belichick won’t forget this, so Edelman better make up for the damage.
