LeBron James, Anthony Davis Make History In Lakers’ Win Over Pelicans

The Los Angeles Lakers had a 114-110 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. It was an incredible win for LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the rest of the team. Davis set a new record for most points in a player’s first game against a former team. Well, his former fanbase wasn’t really thrilled about his arrival, and Davis was welcomed with boos.

The former Pelican finished the game with 41 points, and led the Lakers to their ninth straight win. Davis also had nine rebounds and three steals, including a key snag off a late Pelicans’ inbounds pass to finish the game.

Davis had incredible numbers during his return to New Orleans, and LeBron also made history. He score 29 points, and became the fourth player in the NBA history to reach 33,000 points. He joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone and Kobe Bryant.

LeBron and Davis did some talking before the game. The king prepared his teammate for the negative reactions and the boos from the crowd. He experienced the same thing in Cleveland when he first returned with the Miami Heat. Davis spent seven seasons with the Pelicans, and requested a trade eight months ago. He was traded to the Lakers in June.

Some Pelicans fans still love Davis

Davis was well aware of the fact that Pelicans fans would boo him, but some of them showed him love.

He scored 27 points in the first half, and gave the Lakers a nice start of the game. The former Pelican suffered an arm injury, but it didn’t slow him down and stacked 41 points. The most points scored by a player against a former team prior to this game was 39. Kevin Durant, Stephon Marbury and Danny Ainge scored 39 points against their former teams.

Kyle Kuzma had a great message for Pelicans fans, and Davis exchanged jerseys with Jrue Holiday. Davis went to the Pelicans locker room after the game. He wanted to visit Zion Williamson and talk about his injury. Davis left the Smoothie King Center feeling grateful for both teams he’s played with. This was once in a lifetime experience, and Davis will never forget this night.

“I’m thankful,” Davis said following the game. “Thankful for this guy, No. 23 [LeBron James]. Thankful for the Lakers organization… I’m thankful for the Pelicans organization. They sent me here… they were great to me. We’re moving forward and trying to focus on something great with the Lakers.”
